Quote

"Nervous hands are hard to disguise when they're idle" (Brooks 17).

Reaction

In this quote, not only do i agree entirely, anyone could tell how timid Joe was. If he sat there without moving his hands, he wouldn't be able to hide himself from shaking. This is an important quote because the audience knows that Joe is a very nervous protagonist. When he talks to Candy, hes petrified. Iggy coming and ruining lunch, he was scared to death. His sister telling his dad about her marrying someone he wont approve, hes even scared about that. His mom and dad getting back together freightens Joe. He doesn't like to be seen as this type of boy... he tries to hide everything from the world and seclude himself from it to feel "cool". If Joe is not doing anything to hide his timidity, he will embarass himself greatly.
